How to Dial Down Stress Using Ancient Inspirations

Participants of this energetic and interactive 90 minute session, divided into 5 sections, will learn powerful, yet easily adaptable time-tested evidence based methods for self-managed solutions for many mood challenges facing older Americans including anxiety, depression and stress with additional symptoms such as restlessness or anger. These ancient activities also increase physical activity, heart rate, reducing falls, stretch muscles, while engaging the mind, body and imagination. This session provides a foundational experience to improve physical activity and create increased social engagement within communities of active older adults. Participants will receive easy to implement trainings and evidence based resources for continued learning.

Presentation Objectives:

  • Participants will learn easy to teach Tai Qi movements to regulate moods and metabolisms, in both standing and seated positions, while reviewing the current evidence-based literature on this ancient exercise.
  • Participants will discover how images, breath and mental intention can combine to assist older Americans dealing with being overwhelmed, stressed and anxious. Take away specific next day exercises to implement into your own mental health programs to encourage active adults to help manage their emotion states.
  • Add acupressure techniques to your own evidence-based tools for assisting older adults in self managing stress, anxiety and many challenging emotional states.
  • Participants will be provided current research and learn that the endorphin release of acupressure is only the beginning of the therapeutic possibilities.

David Sollars has been a healthcare solutions entrepreneur for more than 28 years. He is a practitioner of integrative medicine, author, medical educator, leadership development speaker and trainer.


David was the legislative chair for the state acupuncture organization and participated in the foundational negotiations that lead to licensure of acupuncture in the mid 1980’s. He then founded a series of successful Integrative Medical clinics that pioneered the then uncommon practices of a combined conventional and integrative medical staff. These clinics became centers of trusted patient care and medical education, being called on to present bridge building lectures to state and national medical audiences on integrative medical practice and principles for patient centered care.He also taught sustainable methods for integrative practice management including developing value added business relationships with hospitals, medical practices and insurance companies, while developing workplace wellness programs for the private sector. He has maintained an integrative medical private practice for over twenty-seven years.
